SEND Support
At Little Birch, we are dedicated to providing comprehensive support for children with Special Educational Needs. We understand that every child is unique and may require tailored approaches to help them thrive. Our experienced practitioners are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where each child can reach their full potential through personalised strategies and resources. Together, we work to support both our children and their families on this important journey.

How do we support our children with SEND?
Individual Learning Plans
Our Individual Learning Plans recognise that every child is unique, we use regular assessments to fully understand a child's developmental needs allowing us to create specific, realistic next steps to help each child achieve their full potential in a supportive learning environment.
Working with other professionals
We collaborate closely with Health Visitors, Speech and Language Therapists, Educational Psychologists, and the Dorset SEND team to provide your child with the tailored support they need. Our commitment is to ensure a comprehensive approach that addresses all aspects of your child's development and well-being.
Working with families
We understand that no one knows your child better than you do, which is why we prioritise working closely with families. Through regular Team Around the Family meetings and an open-door policy, we create both informal and formal opportunities to share valuable information and support your child's development
Targeted Stratergies
We use a variety of strategies to support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) or Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH). Our approach includes daily small group or individual interventions in our Seedlings group, Attention Autism strategies, a Total Communication approach, and a diverse range of language and communication tools.
Speech, Language and Communication Support
We recognise that supporting children's emerging language and communication skills is vital for encouraging independence and confidence. Our specialist SLCN practitioner creates individual support plans for all children identified through our SLCN Pathway needing exra support. We hold regular 'Seedling' groups to provide SLCN and PSED small group interventions, and work with NHS Speech Therapists to implement targeted plans.
Language and Communication Support
Supporting a child's language and communication development is essential for fostering their independence and confidence. At Little Birch, we create a language-rich environment paired with highly qualified practitioners who are dedicated to identifying Language and Communication developmental needs and ensuring that every child receives the support they need.

If our practitioners identify that a child may need additional support with their Language and communication development we use our Speech, Language and Communication Pathway to ensure that we fully understand your child's needs, and are able to create an individual plan that best supports their development whilst also identifying where referrals to external agencies may be appropriate.
Our daily Seedlings group provides an opportunity for children to have more targeted support in a small group to support their language and communication, as well as their social communication needs.
Where we identify a child may need more specialist support we work with families to help them access the Dorset NHS Readi Steadi Chat referral service.
